Fall Liver Detox in Dundas | Happy Liver Detox with Dr. Kirsten Almon ND
Why a Pelvic Health Clinic Runs a Liver Detox
People are sometimes surprised to see a detox program on the schedule at a pelvic health clinic. It makes more sense once you know how much of our day is spent talking about poop.
Bowel habits sit at the centre of pelvic floor health. When stool is hard, slow or unpredictable, most people push to get it out, and that repeated straining sends pressure straight down onto the pelvic floor. A 1994 study in the British Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology found that 61% of women with uterovaginal prolapse reported straining at stool as young adults, compared with 4% of women without prolapse (Spence-Jones et al.). That is why our physiotherapists ask about your bowels at every pelvic health assessment, and why we want naturopathic care in the same building.
What the Happy Liver Detox is
The Happy Liver Detox is a two-week, food-based program led by Dr. Kirsten Almon ND, who has been running group cleanses for 20 years. Your liver does a huge amount of daily work, from processing hormones to making the bile that helps you digest fats. This program gives it two weeks of steady support through what you eat, what you drink and a few simple daily habits, with Dr. Almon guiding you and a group going through it alongside you.
You eat full meals the whole way through, with recipes for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks, and your plan is tailored to you before day one.
What the two weeks look like
Before you start: your initial visit. You meet one on one with Dr. Almon for 60 minutes, or 45 minutes if you've seen her before or done the detox. She reviews your health history, digestion, sleep, energy and any medications or supplements you take, then adjusts the program to fit you. You leave with your detox booklet and a clear plan for day one.
Days 1 to 14: the detox. Your booklet walks you through each day. It includes recipes, food guidelines for building your meals, and daily habit protocols that support digestion, circulation and lymphatic flow. Many of the habits are small on purpose, like drinking 2 litres of water a day, adding bitter greens such as dandelion and radish to your plate, and squeezing lemon or lime into your sparkling water. If Dr. Almon recommends supplements or herbs for you, she explains why and how to take them. They are optional and priced separately.
Day 8: the group check-in. On Monday November 9 at 7:30 pm, everyone doing the detox meets virtually with Dr. Almon. The middle of any reset is where people tend to wobble, so this is your time to ask questions, troubleshoot and hear how others are getting on.
After: your follow-up visit. About a week after you finish, you see Dr. Almon again. Together you look at how the two weeks went, what you want to keep, and how to carry those habits into the holiday season.
The structure is what makes it work. You know what to eat each day, your plan is built around you, and you have a group and a practitioner in your corner from start to finish.
Why fall
Fall is one of the best times of year to reset. Routines are back after summer, the produce is still good, and the holiday season hasn't started yet. Finishing on November 16 means you head into December with habits you chose on purpose, rather than starting a cleanse in January after the fact.
Who it suits
This program is a good fit for people who are generally healthy and want to feel more like themselves. Dr. Almon often sees it suit people who are dealing with sluggish or unpredictable bowels, low energy or poor sleep, or who are working on prolapse or pelvic floor strength with one of our physiotherapists and want to support that work from the inside.
If you take medication, you can still join. Dr. Almon will go through everything with you at your initial visit.
